Choosing an Aico alarm: the details to check

Begin with the exact model and the job it needs to do. Then check its power supply and how it connects to the other devices in the property. An alarm that looks similar may have different capabilities.

The main ranges at a glance

Aico range What to check
3000 Series Mains alarms with rechargeable lithium backup. Models cover smoke, heat, CO and combinations of these sensors. The Ei3000MRF is an optional wireless module.
600 Series Battery smoke, heat and multi-sensor alarms. Check whether the model includes RadioLINK+; the RF and non-RF versions differ.
140e Series Mains smoke and heat alarms with replaceable 9V alkaline backup batteries.
200 Series Battery carbon monoxide alarms. Ei208 is standalone; Ei208WRF includes RadioLINK+.
1000 Series The Ei1000G Gateway and environmental sensors. Check Gateway requirements and the environmental measurements each sensor provides.

Manufacturer range references: 3000, 600, 140e, 200 and 1000 Series.

Check the power and the backup

“Mains powered” does not tell you what kind of backup battery is fitted. The Ei3016 has rechargeable lithium backup, while the Ei146e uses a replaceable 9V alkaline battery. Keep that distinction in mind when comparing maintenance needs. Follow the installation instructions for the exact product.

Check how the system connects

A wireless-capable range can still require a separate accessory. The Ei3000MRF fits compatible 3000 Series alarms and takes power from the alarm head. The Ei650iRF has RadioLINK+ built in. Confirm the connection method and compatibility across the whole system before replacing or adding a device.

Check what comes in the box

Read the listing for the exact model, base, accessories and packaging option. Do not assume a module or other separate accessory is included because the alarm supports it.

Does AudioLINK+ mean the alarm connects wirelessly to other alarms?

No. AudioLINK+ is used to extract alarm data. The standalone Ei208 has AudioLINK+ but cannot interconnect. Wireless interconnection is a separate capability to check. Read the Ei208 specification.
